What is a vision board?

A vision board is a visual representation of your dreams and goals. Remember that mental picture you took of your dream life a moment ago? Create a physical copy of it. This physical copy can be a poster board with pictures and words, a wire board with magazine clippings, or a collage on your phone. The important thing is to put that mental photograph of what you want to achieve in a place where you can see it regularly and not just keep it in the back of your mind (it may be easier to forget your goals that way).

Without a doubt, you can use a vision board to create a reminder of your personal goals, ideal life, and even to outline your professional goals. You can create a vision board every year, every couple of years, or even for your long-term goals such as 5 or 10 years from now.

It’s important to note that some people will confuse a vision board with a mood board. It is important to remember that these two are not the same. A mood board is used for artistic inspiration while a vision board is mainly geared towards goal manifestation. A vision board can be as uniform or as chaotic as you want it to be. It’s not about the aesthetics, it’s about what you want to drop on it to make it work for you.

But does a vision board really work though?

This is for you to fully decide and try out but for me, IT HAS ABSOLUTELY WORKED! You won’t know if you don’t give it a try.

I am a person that believes in manifesting and the law of attraction. Manifesting means that you dream or envision something and call it into existence. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it’s magic and that things are handed to you but keeping your eyes open for opportunity and keeping a clear vision of what you want can really help you achieve your goals.

I made my first vision board when I was 14 and since then, I have created a vision board at least every 2 to 5 years. In doing so, I have accomplished several of my goals and dreams that at the time I didn’t think would be possible. I have left my vision board stored away and when I dig it up, I realize that there are so many things I achieved and maybe not exactly how I thought they would happened, sometimes they are even better.

I created a vision board with a friend once and she said that she put it away for a year because she was moving and when she dug it up, she realized that almost every single thing that she put on her board had come true. Now she spreads the word with her own friends because she believes it is such a powerful tool.

How To Create A Vision Board

Creating a vision board doesn’t have to be complicated. This should be a fun, easy, and creative process for you. This is an activity that can be personal to you or you can get together with your friends and make an event out of it! First you will need to gather your materials of choice, find images that will represent your goals, place the images on your board, and hang your board in a place where you can view it regularly.

Step 1: Look Deep Within And Think About Your Goals

Taking some time to look within and reflect upon what you want to achieve is the most important part of the process. This is your opportunity to envision your dreams and look towards the future. By taking the time to do this, you are putting your goals and desires out there into the universe. Trust that you have the ability to achieve anything you set your mind to and let your vision board be a reminder of what you are working towards.

step 2: Gather Your Materials:

If you choose to make a physical vision board, you can get really creative with the way you can arrange it. Here are some materials that you can use to create it:

  • A Wire Board can be a beautiful backdrop and a minimalistic approach to add your vision board pictures.
  • A Cork Board is a practical way to create your vision board. You can create your board on Poster Board and simply pin it to your cork board.
  • For pictures, you can use magazine clippings that you draw inspiration from or you can find a variety of free stock photos on Canva or Pexels.

If you choose to create a digital vision board instead, Canva is the way to go! There are several templates you can use. You can also create a cellphone or desktop wallpaper as your vision board to access it easily.

Step 3: Create!

This step is the funnest one! You get to put all of your ideas on paper. You can use Canva to edit the pictures and add captions to them. I like to print out my pictures on sticker paper for a cleaner look. My preference is also to use polaroid frames on my pictures to be able to write the captions at the bottom. I also like to hand write my captions using markers. It is entirely up to you! Let your creative juices flow.

Step 4: Set Your Board In A Place Where You Will See It Regularly

Placing your board in a visible area, will help you reference it periodically and you will be reminded of what you wanted to do in the first place. However, at a certain point, it becomes part of your background and you don’t pay much attention to it, so try to change it periodically to different areas of your home so it doesn’t become stale.

Step 5: Meditate and Journal About the Contents In Your Board.

As we have previously established, having a vision board and looking at it isn’t enough. You really have to work towards your vision and track your progress. Some powerful tools to get on the right track is to meditate and journal about your goals. You can set a routine to do this using your vision board as a guide. For example, if you want to start a business and you envision yourself with a successful business, take some time to check-in and point out things you are doing to achieve your goal, things you have already accomplished and an action plan moving forward to get to where you want to be.

Manifestation Category Ideas To Place On Your Vision Board

At this point, you may already have a clear definition of what you want to achieve and can’t wait to get started. However, if you are at a point in your life where you don’t know exactly what you want to do but you do know that you want your life to change, here are some categories you can look into to help you get pointed in the right direction.

  • Big Picture Life Goal. Think about what you mostly want in life. Are you happy with your life, did you ever want to do anything different? If there is something very specific you wanted to do or be, this is your chance to put it on paper. In this case, you can add a picture of a typewriter for example, if your dream is to publish a book.
  • Love or Relationships. Are you seeking your life partner and are there qualities you would attribute to the perfect match? Or would you just like to make friends and connect with other people like you? Write it down and envision what your social and or relationship life would look like. In this category, you can use a picture of a couple holding hands.
  • Self-care or Mental Health. Do you find yourself struggling with internal personality battles? Would you like to feel better about yourself, raise your self-esteem, give yourself more time to rest or care for yourself? Make sure you add this too! Mental health is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. You can use a picture of someone meditating.
  • Physical Health. Speaking of healthy lifestyle, do you want to improve your physical health? Would you like to have more energy or look a certain way (no shame in that)? This can also be part of your vision board. You can use a picture of someone exercising or eating healthy.
  • Career or Professional Goals. Is there a role in your company that you would like and are looking up to? Or do you want to start a business? You can use a picture of someone wearing professional attire to represent this.
  • Travel. We all have that one place we want to visit in our bucket list, what’s yours? You can use a picture of that location to signify this goal.
  • Financial Health. Is there a large debt or student loan lingering over you? Would you like to earn more money. Manifest this too! You can use a picture of money or prosperity to represent this goal.

So Go Get Started
